A whole reflection of IPD

After I have learnt the content of Issues Publication and Design, I have gain more experience in terms of blogging, which it has basically thought me the aspects of Media Publishing issues which I did not consider in blog creativity in more details. I began from the basic of designing principles, layouts, and backgrounds till the core of compositions. This eventually increased my knowledge regarding media publishing and the essentials of designing a blog better.

Furthermore, I have understood clearly to blog ethically rather than just simply placing any issues without thinking of the consequences. I am grateful that I have this opportunity to be able to learn all the media publishing theories and also the proper methods of using them with an experienced and efficient lecturer in this subject, Ms. Jenny Heng Gek Koon. Therefore, I am now being able to make a perfect blog in a right way.

Issue 4 : TV Everywhere: We're not just ready; we're already doing it

Once again, technology development has been drastically changing to provide the society with simplicity and also the convenience in managing their daily routines. As the flows of technologies will never ends, in fact, its just getting started as the sunrise is coming out.

Now, introducing the latest new 'best friend' for everyone called TV everywhere. But.....

What is TV everywhere?

Source: michaelsinsight.typepad.com

According to Albrecht.C (2009), TV Everywhere is an authentication system where is has a certain premium content such as TV shows, movies, etc.that are available online, only if you can prove that you have a subscription to a multi service operator (e.g. cable, satellite, telco TV).

Moreover, this plan of product is not yet officially fully out for sale. However, as Diaz. S (2009) has reported that almost 25 percent people are willing to pay $10 - $15 per month for a premium "TV Everywhere" as they feel this technologies are really useful as now, not only hand phones that can access to the Internet and watch but other digital tools such as play station portable (psp) and even in a car are also be able to access to the internet.

Based on Koon. J (2009), a country that often offers a mobile TV are United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and South Korea. These country are highly active and known as a world fastest technologies in modern.

In addition, the more the world are developing, the more competitions that people have to struggle to live because when this technologies came out, the competitors of who sells Blockbuster, Wall-Mart or Astro company and even for those who sells DVD's because TV everywhere offers the best deal which knows of what people wanted and that is why among cognitive scientists, narrative must thought to play a crucial role in our capacity to feel, think, and reason about past, present, future, real, or imagined states of affairs to make well living. (McNeill, 1992; Turner, 1996)

As for TV Everywhere, video subscribers can watch programming from their favorite TV networks online for no additional charge. (Staci D. Kramer, 2009). Therefore, I am agree of these technologies are being introduces as it helps to make our lives more easier as future are in front, which mean keep moving forward.

Issue 3 : "Harry Potter" Author Wins Copyright Claim

Source : thepriorarttypepad.com

An owner of Harry Potter Lexicon website, Steven Vander Ark, 50, was been approved to run the website without no harm the copyrights. However, he was being sued after the publication by J.K Rowling. J.K Rowling claimed, “This book constitutes wholesale theft of 17 years of my hard work."

RDR's lawyer, Anthony Falzone, had defended the lexicon as a reference guide, calling it a legitimate effort "to organize and discuss the complicated and very elaborate world of Harry Potter."

The small publisher did not contest that the lexicon infringed upon Rowling's copyright, but argued that it is a fair use allowable by law for reference books.

However, Rowling had proven that Steven Vander Ark's "Harry Potter Lexicon" would cause her irreparable harm as a writer and therefore she has won her claim that a fan violated her copyright with his plans to publish a Potter encyclopedia.

Ethically, in publication, there are laws to respect. Authorship, copyright and plagiarism are critical issues in publication (Anillee, 1999). According to Walker (1997), No one are allowed and not supposed to use other people’s work more than 10 percents of their works.

In addition, when using other people’s ideas, it is important to give credit by citing or quoting their name in order to give respect to their hard work or else, it is plagiarism (Anillee, 1999). Plagiarism applies to both published and unpublished ideas, electronic (e.g. website, email) as well as print versions of material.

It is the same for duplicate publication as well. According to Anillee (1999), “Duplicate publication occurs when authors pass off, as original, research that has been published either substantially or in its entirety elsewhere”. A duplicate publication shared the same ideas, stories and conclusion.

In my opinion, collaborators who have made a significant ideas contribution should be credited as authors. It will prevent you from getting any copyright lawsuit. Therefore, this has proved that whether you are as student, a lecturer and even a professional writer, plagiarisms are not above the laws in any country.

Issue 2 : Facebook's Makeover leaves devotees fuming

Source :jmg-galleries.com

The effect of the new Facebook after it was launched; it created much devotees fuming due to its new layout and functions which did not match people’s satisfaction. This is because; societies are too comfortable with the previous functions of its acts in social networking website itself. Facebook engineer, Mark Slee (2008) stated to the AFP that the website's team is confident they can win over their users because Nikki Gerwel explained the world is all about changes that provide a better quality changes which will attract and maintaining people to devoting to the site.

Furthermore, Technology has been always developing to shape the world to a better place which is why Facebook has taken this step in upgrading their new formats. The new interface allows members use tabs to gain priority to fresh pictures, messages, or "feeds" on main profile pages and compartmentalize mini-applications and "static" information such as a curriculum.

Facebook has changed its layout two times under a year and according to Lonescu (2009) these changes were made to compete with Twitter. However, the changes were being criticized by its members.

However, Rush (2009) stated in her article that there are others who support the new features of Facebook. One group, the Students for the Facebook News Feed, said, "The News Feed has streamlined Facebook, allowing one page to show you everything that has happened recently."

Many of Facebook users hate the new changes, they said it was untidy and it was not like what they expect. However, all Facebook users should adapt to the new Facebookinterchange. Reasoning to this is because as Walsh (2006) multimodels play an important role in creating that attaction thus also it allows simplicity to the members to use. Walsh (2006) further mentions that, with the new layout and upgrades done it creates affordance to the people as it provides better views, gadgets and the interactiveness of the new Facebook. Besides that, these changes are for the better not for the worst for the society. Slee (2008) stated that "We are focusing on innovating and making the product better".

In conclusion, Facebook wants to satisfy members to gain as they are trying to update for a better improvement so that it will not lose the user of Facebook and therefore, it shows thatFacebook is a user-friendly of social networking.

Issue 1 : Indonesian weekly apologises over Last Supper Suharto cover

In the early 1960s, Indonesia and Malaysia has been in a very serious conflict about the Malaysian’s intention to join the Borneo, Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak as one. However, the problem was then solved in a treaty. In 1998, when Soeharto (the president of Indonesia for 32 years) was brought down, the conflict was then brought over to the surface once again. In 2002,Indonesia has to let go Pulau Sipadan and Pulau Ligitan to Malaysia. This issue bring up a lot of conflict between Indonesia and Malaysia until today.

In 2005, another island of Indonesia, Pulau Ambalat was about to being claimed and this time Indonesian was not going to sit in silence. Finally, with the proves from Indonesia and supported by the UN, Indonesia and Malaysia then sign another declaration that Ambalat was belong to Indonesia (Hakim, 2007).

“Indonesia recently accused Malaysian battleships of entering Indonesian territorial waters surrounding Ambalat. Malaysian naval ships have breached the disputed zone several times. According to the TNI, this was the ninth time Malaysia had breached the law in 2009.” As quote from The Jakarta Post (2009), The issues made me thinking on how restless the Indonesian’s government as they do not want the war but the people of Indonesia will keep on giving a lot of pressure. The “trespassing” warships cannot be tolerated and that is why Indonesian’s bloggers and Malaysian’s bloggers have this hate sites: Malaysia and Indonesia

In addition, there are few of hate site which promotes hatred and it is usually spread the negative in terms of races, religion etc. (Wikipedia). This kind of website will gave out a bad impression towards raise people about certain groups of people as they have already perceived in a negative way with some races or religion which increasing the level of hatred.

Indonesia and Malaysia was quite similar in culture and language. Both of these countries should live together in peace. In my opinion, without a truth, this kind of website cannot be trusted. The feelings of hate could cause issues such as discrimination and disliking to any religions which is why there is no benefits to persuade people hating other religion or any cases by using a website.

e) New forms of media publishing

According to Kress and van Leeuwen (2006), text and graphics are used together to form greater meaning as both these modes support each other. Therefore, i would think that the trends now are mostly the tumblelogs. This is because of the different media types such as the text, video, and pictures where bloggers would be able to convey their expressions.

Furthermore, Walsh (2006, p.31) states that, Bloggers enter a site is to obtain information and its main purpose is to provide people with numerous types of information. That is why, I would say that tumblelogs would be the trendiest is because people have different ideas and experiences they face everyday and bloggers would want to express them. Furthermore they also want to share about their experiences.

Old form of media Publishing: Papers or Traditional magazines, etc.

Karp (2006) asserted that the old form of publication will not give up yet, they will find a way out to survive in the new media world. However, to support the needs of the target audience, they tried to explore the new technologies to deliver their content to the audiences. Goldberg, the president of information and media of Mcgraw Hill told Karp (2006) that their readers could access their content in different format: printed, online, television, blogs or podcasts.

New form of Media Publishing: YouTube, Online newspapers, etc.

  • YOUTUBE

Source : Malaysiakini.com

YouTube has been a very popular site for so many years. It is one pit stop for entertainment, news and education. in YouTube everyone can watch any videos up to their interest. Currently, YouTube has been playing quite an important role in the media; you can watch TV shows, news, entertainment videos and many more. Personally, I must say that I rely much on YouTube to watch news from all over the world, for example: BBC news, HardTalk, Al Jazeera, etc. I also watch entertainment videos, like music videos or movie trailers. Especially, when I am boring and got nothing to do, YouTube always accompanied me.

But let’s talk about the disadvantages from viewing streaming videos like YouTube’s videos.

Copyright

According to Jones (2007), YouTube has been sued several times of copyright lawsuits; some users were not responsible enough and posted videos without permission. This is the reason why these days, YouTube had deleted quite many videos that have been uploaded before.

Online Newspapers

If only I have to choose, I will prefer to read online newspapers than printed newspapers. Why? Because online newspapers usually are more to the point, it is actual, fast and convenient. Some more, it is free. But that is not the only reason why I choose online newspapers than printed one.

According to Nielsen (2008) readers will prefer simple and informal writing than a very formal academic writings. Why? Because people tend to read fast, so the language used must be down to earth. If the words used were not simple, people will have to read one by one from each word to word.
